“I think people have this idea that if they are going to come out to their kids it’s going to be like coming out to a friend or adult family member. You don’t sit your kid down and say, This is how it is, I expect you to understand the different pronouns and I expect you to get it now. It’s an ongoing thing and it takes months of conversations to get them to understand. It comes down to where they are developmentally. And they accept it pretty easily if you approach it with the attitude of, This is how things are, no big deal.”
